How to Heat Press a T Shirt

Heat pressing is method to add your own design to a garment. A printed image or text is applied to a shirt using consistent heat and pressure from a heat press.

Below are the steps to heat press T-shirts

Creating Image

  1. Choose image or create a design artwork.
  2. Make sure print the graphic design reverse side into heat transfer paper.
  3. Cut out the design being used to press into shirt (trim as closest to the edge of image). Try to peel off any parts of the design that you don’t want to be ironed on t-shirt.  You can use a weeding tool or just use a safety pin to weeding it.
  4. Place the image ink-side down on the shirt.

Heat Pressing

  1. Turn on the press machine and set accordingly follow instruction for the temperature, pressure and time depending on the transfer paper and type of clothing that you are pressing.
  2. Place shirt onto the platform of the press machine with the surface you want to print over facing up.
  3. Grab the handle above the hot plate arm of the press and pull the hot plate down onto the shirt. Push the handle down until it clamps with a click and the hot plate is locked down.
  4. Wait several times for the press to transfer the design into shirt. Time can range from a quick 5 seconds to 30 seconds, so do not step away from the press machine.
  5. Open the press after it unlocks. Read instruction and determine whether to allow t-shirt and image to cool down or remove the transfer paper while hot. Lift the transfer paper away from the image slowly.
  6. Finally, allow the shirt to cool and dry for 24 hours before packaging or washing.
